Man Allegedly arrested for selling His Own Child

The FCT Police Command said it recently arrested a man, who allegedly deceived his girlfriend to sell their child at Karmo, an Abuja suburb.

FCT police spokesperson, Anjuguri Manzah, told City News that acting on a tip off, police personnel attached to Karmo Division arrested the 36-year-old man, who allegedly tricked his girlfriend into selling their baby to a woman in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The PPRO said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and that efforts were on to arrest the buyer and other persons who conspired to commit the inhuman act.

He stated that the father of the baby didn’t know the exact address of the buyer but that the command was doing everything within its power to track down the woman.

City News gathered that the suspect had earlier forced his girlfriend to abort the child while she was pregnant but that his efforts to convince her proved abortive as she carried the child to full term.

A police source told our reporter that as soon as she gave birth to the child, the boyfriend became friendly towards her.

“He became a better father and started acting like he wanted the child; unknown to her, he had already planned on selling the infant,” the source said.

It was gathered that he eventually convinced his girlfriend to sell the baby and when neighbours realised what happened, they immediately contacted the police.
